How to Make a Basement Ventilation System Similar to The Expensive Ones

Basement Ventilation Systems basically do two things: They move damp musty air out of your basement and pull fresh air in from outside. However, these expensive systems are only made up of exhaust fans connected to vents. You can get the same result in your basement by creating your own ventilation system with window exhaust fans. Window exhaust fans fit into small windows, like those found in a basement, and either suck air out or pull air in, depending on the type of fan.

Measure the size of your windows when open and purchase two to four different exhaust fans for your basement. Make sure half the fans are intake fans and the other half are outtake fans. Some fans provide both operations by turning a switch.

Use the stud finder to locate the studs around your basement windows, if it’s a finished wall.

Place the brackets over the studs around the windows and screw them into the wall with the drill. Insert at least four brackets around the window, two on top and two on the bottom.

Place the exhaust fans in the window. Use a screwdriver and screws to attach them to the brackets.

Plug the fans into a wall outlet and turn them on. Make sure the number of intake and outtake fans are even at all times in your basement.
