How to Plan a Romantic Night at a Hotel

Spending a night at a hotel with your partner can add some excitement to your relationship whether you're a new couple or have been married for decades. Checking in to a luxury resort is a treat, but even a night at the budget inn down the road from home can be a refreshing change from your daily routine. If your partner likes surprises, plan the entire thing without telling her. Blindfold her for the drive to the hotel and have a bouquet of flowers for her when you take the blindfold off.

1. Choose a night or weekend for the getaway. Pick a time when both you and your partner can get away without missing any commitments. If your partner has a stressful job and works long hours, a weeknight won't be a good choice because she may end up spending the whole night with her laptop, trying to get work done. Choose a time when you know you'll both be able to concentrate on each other without worrying about other tasks.

2. Find the right hotel. Ask friends and co-workers for recommendations and search travel Web sites such as Trip Advisor or Former’s. These sites have reviews from people who have stayed at the hotels, so they can give you more insight than simply relying on each pet friendly cheap hotels. Plan your budget for not only the hotel room but also for travel costs and extras. You may find a good deal for a weekend stay, but if you have to fly to get there it could end up costing a lot more than if you chose a hotel within driving distance.

3. Contact the hotel. Call the front desk and ask for help in planning a romantic stay. The clerk may be able to connect you with a concierge who can recommend a romantic restaurant nearby. If the hotel has a spa, the clerk can help you book services like a couple's massage. She may also be able to arrange for there to be a bottle of champagne and chocolate-covered strawberries waiting in the room when you check in.

4. Get some supplies. Buy some chocolates and a bottle of wine if the hotel isn't providing any. You can also buy some massage oil, bubble bath and candles to create your own romantic spa right in the bathroom of your room.

5. Pack a bag for yourself. If you're taking your partner on the trip as a surprise, pack a bag for her as well. Include both of your bathrobes, lingerie and nice clothes that are appropriate for a dinner at a nice restaurant. Include comfortable clothes for traveling home at the end of the getaway.
